C-AS OCT2016 Meeting Minutes

St. Patrick's Altar Society

October 2016 Meeting Minutes                                        Attendance: 20 members

In honor of Mary, many of the members of St. Patrick's Altar Society joined fellow parishioners in reciting the rosary prior to the October meeting. Then the ladies met in the social hall and opened the meeting with a Hail Mary. The minutes from the September meeting were read, and after a slight adjustment to the comment on the Wedding Coordinator positions, were approved. Melissa B. announced that one person, Julie Lowe, had come forward to accept one of the Wedding Coordinator positions, but a couple more people are needed. The Treasurer's report for September was approved.

Fr. Schweiger commented that he anticipates the upcoming Parish Mission to be a great event and strongly encouraged all the ladies to attend. He announced that the new tables and chairs for the social hall were expected to be delivered on Wednesday and that they would be starting on the garden on Saturday, weather pending. Father also wanted to thank all the ladies that lead the funeral dinners and those that contribute food for the dinners. He feels that it is one of the most important things that the society does for the parish, and the families really appreciate it. Father stated that the votive candle stands are close to being completed and that the social hall cabinets are the next thing on the list, once the Narthex wood-working is finished. He also shared that new carpet is planned for the rectory basement in 3 or 4 weeks and that they had received just enough donations to build the St. Vincent de Paul garage. Of course they would appreciate any further donations to allow for a little breathing room in the construction budget. Father notified the group that he had spoken to a couple of priests that had recently had some statues restored in other parishes. 2 priests recommended the same person for the restoration of 3 statues of St. Patrick’s that need some work. Father agreed to contact the artist and to report back to the society next month.

Diane N. stated that the Diaper Drive would be held in October. Debbie reminded the ladies that the election is only a month away. The ladies were informed of Father Morris’ plan to speak about the election in his next Catholic 101 meeting. Mary Jo notified the group that she found a good deal on a good vacuum and made the purchase last month.

A count of 8226 Best Choice labels was shared with the ladies. A motion was made and approved to request that Grace A. and Betty Z. buy material to make a special altar cloth for Christmas and other special occasions. Eileen W. and Kathy W. stated that they would not be able to lead the annual December Cookie Sale fundraiser. Melissa B. and Maggie B. volunteered to lead that fundraiser this year and the group agreed that the proceeds from the sale would go to the social hall expenses. A sign-up sheet was routed for volunteers to work the breakfast, lunch and baked goods counter during the Craft Show on October 29th. Mary D. showed Deacon Doher’s chalice and handed out Mass Journals for any interested ladies. A sign-up sheet was also routed for donating cookies and serving at the Pro-Life Talk on October 23rd. Since there were no volunteers, Melissa called a couple of parishioners and was able to provide refreshments. A donation of $200 to the STARS event was motioned and approved. Melissa B. presented an opportunity to sponsor the Newman Center Catholic Sorority. After much discussion, the members voted to table this opportunity for this year.
