What a wonderful week – I’ll take a taste of spring anytime.  As you drive around the church take notice of the east end – both corners are now completely bricked and you can see what the “keystone” looks like (white precast stone in center of window arch).  The brick still needs to be washed, but you can get a feel for how the church walls are going to look.  Jim finished bricking the west wall of the north transept, and then Leon and Jim went up top and started laying brick on the east peak wall (over the sanctuary roof).  The arches over the windows on the south side of the nave have been framed in (except for in the south transept area).  Dan has been busy doing miscellaneous framing, such as making openings for the heat/air vents, putting in expansion joints, and helping with the sheet rocking.  A lot of sheet rock has gone up – the social hall walls have been completed, the main hallway from the narthex to the old building has been sheet rocked, the narthex has all of the sheet rock on, the east wall of the bell tower is done, the upstairs south hallway has also been rocked along with the mechanical room on that side, and the west wall of the sacristy has been completed.  Craig our wonderful taper is finished with the nave ceiling (putting five coats of compound on the ceiling) and sanding it completely.  Carroll from Phillips Painting has put the first two coats of paint on the nave ceiling (like a sand color).  Seth & Matt have put in more heat/air vents and a few overhead units.  Fire SPK continues installing the sprinkler system in the narthex, nave, and basement areas – the ceiling is getting quite full with pipes, vents, conduit, and other such things.  More and more conduit has been put in place and yards and yards of wire has been pulled through the pipe.  The confessional rooms may be small compared to everything else but they sure have a lot of conduit, gang boxes, and units in their walls.  Work lights have been put in place in the basement.  Kingery has prepped some of the window arches for sheet rock, built safe scaffolding for the masonry fellows, took down the plastic protection enclosure, hauled lots of sheet rock scrap to the dumpster, constructed window supports, put doorjamb blocking on the door frames, worked on the bell tower, put in more and more wood blocking, and repositioned the plastic over the clerestory windows, and much more.

Hopefully the week of the 16th the scaffolding will be coming down and if it comes down, Fr Schweiger will be giving a tour on the weekend of the 22nd of March.  Hope to see you all there.  Also keep in mind, if all goes as planned, the old church will be coming down on the 30th of March.  We are planning on moving all the oak and walnut wood out of the old church on the 28th.  SO……………… if you can come and help, that would be great – the more helpers, the faster the moving will go.
