C-AS-Altar Society January 2015 Meeting Minutes

St. Patrick's Altar Society

January 2015 Meeting Minutes                                          Attendance:  23 members

January's  St. Patrick's Altar Society meeting in the rectory basement opened with a prayer for the Year for Consecrated Life.  The minutes from November were read and approved.  A thank you from Eileen Widhalm regarding her daughter winning the quilt that was raffled last fall was shared with the group.  The Treasurer's November, December, and full-year 2014 reports were distributed to the members and approved.

Father provided an update on the plans for the old church building.  The last Mass to be held in the building will be the First Communion Mass on February 1st.  Father Perkington plans on attending this historic event.  Asbestos removal will start the next day, February 2nd.  Access to the building will not be allowed while that work is being done, which should take about a week. Much work will need to be done inside the building the next few weeks following to enable the demolition, which is scheduled for Easter Monday, April 6th.  MaryJo L. shared an update on the construction of our new church building.

The only commission report given this month was from Debbie W. on Legislative.  She reported that 17 of the 39 senate members are new, as well as the Governor, Auditor and Treasurer.

A count of 7,000 (1,000 were a bonus for submitting over 5,000) Best Choice labels was shared with the group, which made $210 for the society!  The Lincoln Deanery is the featured deanery of the month.  Diane N. provided the photo and Judy S. wrote a brief history for the section on St. Patrick's on the website.  Father promptly looked up the website on his smart phone and confirmed there was an article on St. Patrick's!

The LDCCW Winter Symposium on January 16th & 17th, and the Walk for Life on January 31st were recommended to the group.  Possible plans for World Marriage Sunday on February 15th were discussed.  Masses will be held in the gym during this time, so tables along the hallway were suggested for coffee and rolls that day.  A special blessing was also requested for all the Masses that day and Father confirmed.  Father notified the group that they can start using the new parish hall as soon as the new building is ready in August.  The hall should be scheduled with Sarah.  The possibility of sponsoring an item on the new church list was also discussed.  The group decided that they should wait and see what the expenses will be to purchase new linens, candles, etc...  The official list of pilgrimage sites for the year of consecrated life was distributed to the group and it was suggested that the group organize trips to a few of the sites.
