C-AS APR2017 Meeting Minutes

St. Patrick's Altar Society

April 2017 Meeting Minutes                                        Attendance: 23 members

St. Patrick's Altar Society meeting for April opened with the Hail Mary prayer. The minutes from the March meeting were approved as read. Correspondence received consisted of the Catholic Social Services newsletter and a letter from Guardian Tax Partners thanking the volunteers for working the Tax Auction and notifying the ladies that the opportunity will be available again next year on March 5, 2018. The Treasurer’s report for March 2017 was approved.

Fr. Schweiger was out of town, so there were no parish/construction updates, except that Mary Jo L. notified the ladies that the construction on the St. Vincent de Paul garage had started.

No Commission Reports were given. Melissa B. thanked all the ladies that provided food or served at the Priests’ Deanery Meeting. She also thanked everyone that helped at the St. Patrick’s Day festival. And Mary Ann O. informed the ladies that the Society has collected 3100 Best Choice labels this year.

The Knights have requested that the Altar Society provide the refreshments and serve at their next Pro-Life Education Series scheduled for April 30. Melissa B. is unable to be there that day due to other commitments and requested that someone else take the lead. Kathy K. volunteered and a sign-up sheet was passed around for other servers and cookie providers. Melissa asked the members if they wanted to support the carnations fundraiser for Birthright again this year. The ladies agreed, and thought that 175 carnations would be about right. A sign-up will be available at the May meeting.

Plans for the Society’s May Banquet was discussed. It was agreed that Kathy K. would get a meat dish from Hy-Vee or Super Saver and everyone else would bring a side dish. Rosemary S. has graciously volunteered again to lead the decoration of the hall for the event and was planning to have Our Lady of Fatima as a theme since it is the 100th Anniversary of the apparitions. It was also agreed that the ladies would meet in the church at 6:30 p.m. to recite the rosary, and that the Marian sisters would be invited again this year. Melissa will send out an email requesting the ladies to RSVP so that we get a headcount for the meat dish. Melissa will also have sign-up sheets for volunteers to serve and provide salads for Deacon Jason Doher’s Dinner on May 28. It was confirmed that the ladies would serve at the dinner, provide the salads, and purchase cake for dessert. Mary D. informed the members that they are planning on having kolaches at the dinner, so not as much cake will be needed, and that all the ladies of the Society are invited to the Mass and the dinner if they would like to attend. Mary was also very excited to share with the ladies that the parish is launching an adoration program in early June. There will be limited hours at first, with more hours added as more parishioners sign up.

The garage sale was discussed again. There did not appear to be enough support to run such a large event, so Melissa asked the members what they wanted to do. A vote was held, and it was unanimous that we would not hold the event this year. The meeting ended with the Glory Be prayer.
