C-AS November2014 Meeting Minutes

St. Patrick's Altar Society

November 2014 Meeting Minutes                                        Attendance: 22 members

Clara Sabotka from Saints Mary & Joseph parish in Valparaiso started the November St. Patrick's Altar Society meeting in the rectory basement with a demonstration on UGLY (Unconditionally God Loves You) Quilts. $25 was donated to the good work those women are doing providing warm quilts for the homeless, the women of Gianna's House and others. The minutes from October were read and approved. The Treasurer's October report was distributed to the members and approved.

An update on the church construction was not available since Father Schweiger and MaryJo L. were both unable to attend the meeting. And there were no commission reports for the month.

Several areas of old business were covered. A count of 4473 Best Choice labels was shared with the group. We are closing in on our goal of 5000 labels! Jeanne V. reported that the quilt raffle has raised $961 so far with plans to sell tickets after Mass the weekend of November 22/23. The new commissions structure of the LDCCW was discussed with the group. No changes were made to the Leads for the current commissions. The diaper drive was a success with 910 diapers, plus $50, being donated by parish members. The plans for altar linens for the new altar were briefly discussed. The leads for that project are requesting direction from Father so they will meet with him after the first of the year. Grace A. has graciously volunteered to assist with the sewing of the new linens.

There were also several areas of new business covered. The group's Christmas Party will be held December 2 and will be coordinated by Rosemary S., Eileen W., and Jan W. A motion was made and approved to make the group's annual Christmas charity be Gianna House this year. Members were asked to bring household items or a donation for the charity to the Party. It was mentioned that pillows are especially needed. Members were also asked to bring a white elephant gift for a bit of fun during the party. A non-event fundraiser is planned again this year. It will be held the weekend of December 6/7 and will be coordinated by Kathy W. and Eileen W. A reminder was given to the group to support the upcoming STARS event this month. Sign-up sheets were passed around for desserts and for program ideas for 2015. And Kathy K reported that the minutes from the Altar Society meeting and scheduled events are now located on the Altar Society's page of the St. Patrick's website.
