C-AS OCT2015 Meeting Minutes

St. Patrick's Altar Society

October 2015 Meeting Minutes                                        Attendance: 21 members

October's St. Patrick's Altar Society meeting opened with the St. Monica's prayer. The minutes from September were read, and after a minor change, were approved. There was no correspondence to share with the group. The Treasurer's report for September was distributed and approved.

Fr. Schweiger announced to the group that the parish will be holding a BBQ on October 15th at 5:00 p.m. for everyone that helped in the pew building project in appreciation of their hard work. He asked the ladies if they would be willing to provide desserts for the event. Father again requested assistance with the creation of a set of rules for renting the new Social Hall.

Pat W. notified the members that the "Babies In Need" group would be attending our next meeting to describe their mission. Pat W. requested that all the members bring newborn diapers or other items that are like new in newborn size to the next meeting to donate to the group. A motion was made and approved to have a Mass intention on October 25th, LDCCW Sunday, for all the ladies of the parish. It was suggested that all the members present invite other women in our parish to the next meeting. It was also suggested that the group hold a membership drive in January to try to encourage more ladies to be active members.

A count of 5,471 Best Choice labels was shared with the group. The members were reminded that October is the month of the Rosary and were asked to consider leading the Rosary any night at 6:30 in the church. An update was given on the quilt raffle. 2300 tickets have been distributed and $170 has been submitted so far. Raffle tickets will be sold during the Bake Sale on October 25 and the Pancake Feed on November 8. It was communicated that no one has stepped forward to be the Altar Society President for the next term. All members were asked to pray on it.

Some concerns were mentioned regarding the Saturday church cleaning. It appears that there is a lot of uncertainty on where to meet after Mass, what to clean, what supplies to use, where the supplies are located, etc... It was suggested that the reminder calls include where to meet on Saturday and that the Leaders get training on the new processes for cleaning the new building. Father said that it would be a couple more weeks before he had a list of safe cleaning materials. Once he has that information, the Leaders will be notified and they can share that with their cleaning crew. The society would like to get at least 26 Leaders so that they would only have to lead twice a year.

A bid of $7730 from Supreme Surfaces for the social hall countertops was brought to the group. The bid included a commercial sink, but not the faucet or garbage disposal. The committee was asked to get further bids. The members were asked if they wanted to support the STARS event again this year with a donation. A motion was made and approved to donate $200 to the STARS committee for them to purchase auction items. The Altar Society Christmas party is planned for the December meeting and volunteers to lead the event were sought. Pat W., Diane N. and Kathy K. volunteered to organize the party. The meeting ended with a prayer and delicious desserts.
