1868: Catholic Church Built in Lincoln

This is a continuation of the history of St. Patrick's parish found in the 1908 time capsule. It is reprinted here just as it was written in that account.

About the year 1868 a Catholic Church was built in Lincoln, a small frame building about 30 x 50 feet at the cost of $1,000. In this church, which was replaced by the present St. Theresa's Pro-Cathedral, also the Catholics of Havelock and vicinity attended divine services until a church was erected in Havelock. About the year 1893 in January the Franciscan Fathers of the Province of St. John the Baptist of Cincinnati, Ohio, came to Lincoln. The priests who came were Rev. P. Ignatius Wilkens O.F.M. and Rev. P. Peter Alcantara Welling O.F.M. To the former was given the pastorate of St. Francis de Sales Church, Lincoln, and the latter took charge of the surrounding missions, Havelock, Sullivan's Settlement near Denton, Greenwood, and Walton. To be continued.
