1908: A Description of the New Church

The new church that stood where the first church had been was a much larger, more impressive building. Parishioners climbed outside stairs to enter the vestibule from which two flights of stairs rose on the east and west sides to the floor above. On the east side, another stairway led to the parish hall below. Once inside the church itself, people’s attention would be drawn immediately to the sanctuary and its lovely altar, flanked by the two stained glass windows of Jesus and the Blessed Mother on either side. Two side altars balanced the main altar, each with a statue, one of the blessed Mother and one of St. Patrick. An embossed tin ceiling added a graceful note above. There were no stained glass windows in the nave yet, and the sun beat down pretty mercilessly at times on people in the pews, but discomfort was no match for the pleasure of having their new church.
