1908: Building Committee is Formed

It was not long before the parishioners of St. Patrick’s made plans for their new church. A building committee was selected: Fr. Polycarp von Mourik, Robert McDevitt, Michael Shirk, and Michael Moran. In early September of 1908, the general contract was awarded to W.J. Assenmacher and Co., and the heating and plumbing contract was awarded to W.R. Johnson. The electrical work would be done by Havelock Electrical C. All told, the bill would come to $22,512.00 and the work was to be finished by March 17, 1909. The cornerstone was laid by Nov. 14, 1908. Even though the building was not completed yet by March 17, 1909, it seems that the basement was used for services by that time while work continued on the upper floors.
