1908: Then and Now, Parishioners Work Together to Finish the New Church

Parishioners of St. Patrick parish were no doubt very happy to move into the basement of their new church, even though the upper floors would not be ready for some time. Mrs. Margaret (Aylward) Curran told of her grandfather, Patrick Malone, and other men like him who would go to work on the new church in the morning before they went to work for the day, and then, after work, would return to continue working. That same dedication is evident today as we witness men and women from the parish (our pastor and his mother as well) putting in very long hours to finish our new building. Little by little, pews appear, kneelers are installed, and woodwork and windows suddenly surprise us. Of course there is nothing sudden about any of it, only lots of determination and hard work. Lights burn late many an evening. It’s a tradition.
